With 44 days until the World Cup, we revisit Davor Jozic's stunning goal for Yugoslavia against Colombia at the 1990 Italy World Cup.
Jozic entered Italia 90 as a sweeper who had not scored in his six-year international career. He got off the mark with a header in Yugoslavia's opener, but a 4-1 defeat to West Germany left them needing victory in their second group match. When Colombia cleared a corner with the score still level and only 17 minutes remaining, Jozic defied convention. While his fellow defenders jogged back, he stayed forward. The decision paid off richly.
The 29-year-old crept between two Colombians, leapt into the air, controlled Safet Susic's cross impeccably on his chest, and venomously volleyed the only goal past Rene Higuita, securing a vital victory.
